When I heard that the creators of A Very Potter Musical and A Very Potter Sequel were coming out with a new show, I was completely psyched. I was especially excited when I found out that it would be Sci-Fi. And now that I've seen it, I know my excitment was with good reason!

Starship stars many of our favorite people from past Starkid productions like Joey Richter, Lauren Lopez, Joe Walker, Dylan Saunders, Joe Moses, Julia Albain, Jaime Lyn Beatty, Brian Holden, Nick Lang, and Jim Povolo. (Phew, we have a lot of favorites! Oh and speaking of favorites, did I mention that the music is all by Darren Criss?) There are also a few newcomers; Brant Cox, Denise Donovan, and Meredith Stepien, who do a fantastic job performing and fitting in with the rest of the cast.

Starship's main character is Bug, played by Joey Richter. All Bug wants to do is be a Starship Ranger. But he can't because he's, well... a bug. When a Ranger named February lands on his planet, it's up to Bug to keep her out of danger. And along the way... well let's just say Bug decides he wants to be a human more than ever!
Soon we meet the rest of February's crew, a hilarious cast of characters including some new recruits to the Starship Ranger Corps. and even some vets from the Robot Wars!

I was very impressed with the casting and performance for this show. Although a lot of the actors are those that we've seen before, they reinvent themselves for this production. Joey Richter takes center stage and earns his spotlight, while Lauren Lopez (Taz, Bugette) continues to amaze with her terrific character acting. Dylan Saunders, known for playing Dumbledore in AVPM and AVPS is simply stunning in his two roles as Starship Ranger Tootsie Noodles and Pincer.
I was also exptremely impressed with the three new cast members; Brant Cox, who plays Bug's best friend Roach; Denise Donovan, who plays February; and Meredith Stepien, who plays Mega Girl.

The costumes, designed by June Saito, were great. They were very in keeping with the feel of the show. They worked ve very well to compliment the character's attitudes, while at the same time supporting the lighthearted atmosphere. For example, Commander Up looks very similar to Snake from Metal Gear Solid! There is also a return of the famous blue headband, which will make any StarKid fan flail (I did) when they see it come out on stage.

The puppetry was also astounding. The puppets themselves look fantastic and were pulled off well, which is a credit toward whoever fabricated them, and the actors who became their voices and created their every move.

I liked the morals of the show too, although I do have to say they reminded me a bit of Pocahontas and Aladdin at times (Don't have prejudice against others and don't lie about who you are) But hey, Pocahontas and Aladdin don't have giant talking bugs!

I really loved Starship, and can't wait to watch it again!
